Amarinth has delivered two separate orders of API 610 pumps, collectively worth £1.2 million, for the West Qurna-2 enlargement project in Iraq.

West Qurna-2, located roughly sixty five km north-west of the seaport city of Basra, is one of the world’s greatest onshore oilfields. The expansion venture is anticipated to extend the oilfield’s production capability from the current 400,000 barrels oil per day (bpd) to 480,000 bpd, with a goal to attain a total production capacity of 800,000 bpd by 2025.

The bespoke designed pumps are for a low shear application and required specialist Plan 53B seal support systems incorporating air cooled seals and stainless-steel accumulators. All electrical gadgets have been IECEx certified for use in an ATEX Zone 2 hazardous area. Despite the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic in the course of the design and manufacture, delivery was achieved within the required time of simply 32-weeks from order.
The second order, from SICIM, was for three super duplex API 610 OH3 vertical in-line pumps for produced water treatment. The giant pumps had impellers of over 500mm diameter and the casings, that weigh 1.5 tonnes, have been forged in a foundry within the UK. Plan 53B seal help systems have been designed to fit inside a constrained footprint and because the pumps had been destined for an ATEX Zone 2 space, the motors, seal assist methods, and instrumentation had been IECEx licensed.
